Brodie Biomass Acquires SoilFixer, Expanding its Biochar and Soil Improvement Offerings

Biochar

Brockham, Surrey – 20th March 2025 – Following the successful launch of its biochar production facility in 2024, Brodie Biomass is pleased to announce the acquisition of the SoilFixer brand from ACI Innovations Ltd., previously owned by Tony Callaghan.

For over a decade, SoilFixer has been a leading name in the UK’s biochar and soil improvement sector. The acquisition marks a natural progression for Brodie Biomass, enhancing its position as a key player in sustainable land management.

Commenting on the purchase, Tom Brodie, Founder of Brodie Biomass, said:
“The fit with SoilFixer is fantastic. Over the past ten years, Tony has built SoilFixer into one of the most respected biochar and compost brands in the UK. As manufacturers, this acquisition is a natural extension of our work. While Tony is stepping back from the biochar business to focus on new product innovations, he will continue to support us during the transition, and we greatly appreciate his expertise.”

Brodie Biomass plans to expand SoilFixer’s product range, incorporating additional materials processed on its farm in Surrey. This will include dried oversize woodchip and wood fines (both wet and dry), broadening the scope of sustainable soil enhancement solutions available to customers.

“At our core, we are farmers first and foremost. Our diversification into biochar production is driven by a commitment to regenerative agriculture and sustainability,” Brodie added. “With our world-class pyrolysis unit, we transform locally sourced wood into high-quality biochar, which we use on our own land and supply through SoilFixer. This ensures SoilFixer continues to offer premium biochar derived from sustainable sources.”

Beyond biochar production, Brodie Biomass is actively sequestering carbon and qualifying for carbon credits through its sustainable operations. The facility also repurposes surplus energy to heat a drying barn for woodchip and agricultural products. Looking ahead, plans are in place to export renewable energy to the local electricity grid, further reinforcing the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

With this acquisition, Brodie Biomass is set to propel SoilFixer into its next chapter, ensuring continued innovation in soil improvement and carbon sequestration.

Products for Spring planting are now back in stock and available to order via www.soilfixer.co.uk.
